Anthro Expo 2009

We had a great time at this year's Anthropology Expo selling books and treats!

The California State Indian Museum brought artifacts to share.

The UC Davis Department of Anthropology talked about field school opportunities in archaeology.

Professor Murad from CSU Chico delivered the keynote address on forensic anthropology.

The Maidu Interpretive Center

The Maidu is a Native American tribe that lived in Northern California about 7,000 to 10,000 years ago. In Roseville there is a site of their village. At the interpretive center there's a museum of the Maidu tribe and also a tour given of the village site and other events. They are having a Columbus Day Revisited on Oct. 10 2009. 10:00 a.m.-4:00p.m. There will Indigenous People's Day Presentations and Native American storytelling. SF Zoo Trip

We had a great time at the SF Zoo last week - lots to see. The primates were particularly impressive and we learned that the 4 chimps had been at the zoo since the 60s and that one was the model for Yoda.

Archaeological Institute of America's 10th Annual Archaeology Fair

This fair will be held in conjunction with the Archaeological Institute of America’s 111th Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California.

Our annual archaeology fair is a wonderful program that reaches out to the local community and teaches kids and adults alike about archaeology through hands-on activities. As a presenter, you will reach hundreds of kids, their parents, and other educators, to teach them about the importance and value of archaeology. As a presenter, you will be able to create your own hands-on activity to present to our attendees. The activity should be suitable for about 10-15 people (mostly kids) to participate in at the same time. Aside from reaching out to the community, this is also a great opportunity to publicize your organization and its activities. All participating groups also receive 2 free registrations to the AIA’s 111th Annual Meeting

Kabob Palace

We had a blast at Kabob Palace on Laguna and Franklin last Thursday! Thanks to all who came! We enjoyed new flavors and spices, being xenophiliacs, and appreciated the adventure together! Tune in for info on our next ethnic dinner!

October 2009: Anthropology Expo, hosted by Cosumnes River College.
We have formalized the theme for this year's Anthro Expo to be "My Anthropology" or something close to that. We feel this is a broad enough theme to include many different aspects of anthropology (careers included). Details coming soon!
